Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay

For the past week I have been travelling up the east coast of Australia, with Clara and Lea (the Austrian girls). After Newcastle I went to Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay.
All of the above mentioned towns are quite small and there is not much to see, however if you look good enough there are some small things to do in every town.
In Port Macquarie there is a very nice nature park named Koolenburg nature park. It is a small park in the middle of the town and takes no longer than 45 min to walk the track. Even though I didn't think much of it, it appeared to be a park full of Australian wildlife. Lea discovered the first wild koala there and we saw at least a couple of hundred flying foxes, which were hanging in the trees above us. It was an amazing site to see.
Next up was Coffs Harbour, where we enjoyed some free accommodation. Because I had to wait for 2 hours in Newcastle station I met an Australian boy named Tom and he offered me to stay with him and that I also should take Clara and Lea with me.
We stayed there 3 nights and we learned how to surf a bit (it's harder than it looks) and were showed around town and his farm, where we had wonderful BBQ's and made Wiener Schnitzels.
After the wonderful stay at Tom's farm we went to Byron Bay (the hippy town of Australia). It was very touristy but the vibe was very nice. There are some some very nice cafes and stores and the walk to the lighthouse is amazing.
Currently the humpback whales are migrating and all have to swim around Byron Bay which means that you can spot them from the shore. I think I saw about 20 of them, and they were playing a lot. They breached a couple of times and hit the water with their fins and tails. Unfortunately it was a bit to far to make pictures though you have to believe it was a wonderful sight.
After that we went to a Halloween party where the Austrian girls got a bit too drunk and left at 10:30 (half an hour later than arrived) with a bottle of cheap whine each in their tummies. It actually was quite funny because they were so excited to get drunk all day but not as fast as eventually happened.
My next trip will be surfers paradise and Brisbane.

Dronken Oostenrijkse dames, als dat maar goed gaat. Wat leuk van die walvissen. In IJsland hadden we niet zoveel geluk. We zagen er toen maar eentje. Misschien kun je er nog eens dichterbij komen.
